Our Lucky Seed Signs are made out of Maputjuju beads, more commonly known as “Swazi baby teething beads” or River beads, are found in Eswatini. This tropical wild grass seed has been gathered and used for generations by local Swazi women for their babies to chew on as a natural teething remedy. They are referred to as Job’s tears in other parts of the world.
These unique signs are hand-beaded by the Khutsala™ Artisans, creating valuable employment in a country with unemployment estimates as high as 70%. 100% of the profits from the sale of Khutsala™ goods go directly back to the care of children living on Project Canaan in Eswatini, Africa.
Over 50% of the population in Eswatini, Africa is living below the poverty line and make less than $2 per day. Khutsala meanings "hard-working" in the siSwati language.
Over 100 people are currently employed at Khutsala™ Artisans and since each Swazi provides for 13 other family members on average, nearly 1,300 people are impacted in surrounding communities. Work gives us all purpose. It nurtures dignity and self-worth.
