These beaded bowls are handcrafted and hand-beaded in Eswatini.
Two of these handmade bowls are made with Maputjuju beads, more commonly known as “Swazi baby teething beads” or River beads, these are found in Eswatini. This tropical wild grass seed has been gathered and used for generations by local Swazi women for their babies to chew on as a natural teething remedy. They are referred to as Job’s tears in other parts of the world.
The creation of each unqiue bowl involves a team of three Khutsala™ Artisans. One strings the beads, one creates the frame, and one wraps the beads on the frame. It takes an experienced framer about 3 hours to make one frame, an experienced stringer about 1.5 hours to string the beads, and an experienced wrapper a full day (8 hours) to wrap one frame with beads.
Each of our beaded bowls is handcrafted in Eswatini, Africa. Unemployment estimates in Eswatini have been as high as 70%. We currently employ over 100 people at Khutsala™ Artisans. Our mission is to provide each of our artisans with work they can be proud of and help them provide for their families.
100% of all profits from all purchases are donated to support the children living at Project Cannan, a place of HOPE for orphans and vulnerable children in Eswatini. Spread hope and support with each purchase you make.
